Quality Assurance Unit

Functions

The Quality Assurance Unit is an internal structure that oversees the implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) procedures at the University, as well as at the level of Study Programmes and Departments, in accordance with the guidelines set out by the Governing Bodies in the University’s Quality Policies for teaching, research and third mission, and in the University Strategic Plan. The QA Unit:

  • promotes a culture of quality within the University
  • organizes and coordinates QA processes across the University, providing operational guidance as well as, when necessary, relevant data and information
  • monitors the application of structured QA processes by all actors in the system and evaluates their effectiveness
  • plans and organizes training activities on QA, aiming both to disseminate a culture of quality and encourage responsible engagement of all system actors, as well as to provide support to ensure adequate and consistent implementation of QA processes
  • ensures effective information flow among all those involved in the University QA system
  • periodically reports to the Governing Bodies on the status of QA-related actions, highlighting the improvements achieved, ongoing critical issues, and planned actions

The Quality Assurance Unit prepares an annual report detailing the activities carried out, results achieved, ongoing issues, and activities planned for the following year. The report is approved by 31 March each year and is submitted to the governing bodies and the Evaluation Board.

Composition

The University Quality Assurance Committee, established by resolutions of the Academic Senate and Board of Governors on March 4, 2013, is composed of 5 to 7 members selected from university faculty and staff with specific expertise in Quality Assurance. The Chair and members are appointed by Rector’s decree, serve a three-year term, and may be renewed consecutively once.
