Is everything okay?

  • Are you having trouble passing exams?
  • Are you struggling to connect with your classmates?
  • Do you find it difficult to interact with the teaching staff?
  • Are you far from home and missing your environment or your family?

If you hesitate to answer, or feel that things are not going entirely well, you can contact the University’s counselling service.

You will find someone to listen to you and provide guidance with any difficulties you may encounter during your university experience.

Sometimes, simply talking about it can make things feel less overwhelming than they seem when kept inside.

The counselling service offers an initial appointment, which you can book by writing to consulenzapsicologica@unistrapg.it. During this first meeting, a counsellor will assess whether to schedule up to two further sessions or refer you to alternative support services, including those outside this service.

Each session lasts around one hour and is designed to identify the source of your difficulties, understand your challenges, and encourage you to develop effective strategies to overcome these situations.

Why a counselling service?

The service is the result of collaboration between the Università per Stranieri di Perugia and USLUmbria1, delivered by psychotherapists to provide support to students experiencing personal difficulties during their university studies.

During your university years, it is common to encounter moments or periods of discomfort, which may arise from doubts about your abilities or choices, or be linked to specific life changes, difficulties in relationships with peers, lecturers or family. You might also experience anxiety or discomfort that cannot be clearly attributed to a specific cause. Sometimes there is simply a need to talk to someone who can listen and help reflect on delicate situations.

For out-of-town students, and even more so for those coming from another country, the distance from family, friends and familiar places can be challenging, and the new environment may feel profoundly different or unfamiliar.

Having the opportunity to discuss these issues with a mature, attentive listener who acknowledges the value and significance of your discomfort can help clarify difficulties, mobilise your personal resources and unlock positive change that might otherwise struggle to emerge.

The service is free and strictly confidential and provides up to five sessions of approximately one hour each. More complex or persistent issues that require further support may be referred to other specialist services.
