This degree programme, part of the Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts in the World, has a strong innovative character: it is the only programme in Italy to integrate the curricula and learning objectives of two degree classes—Tourism Sciences and Sciences, Cultures and Policies of Gastronomy.
Through this interdisciplinary structure, the course aims to provide a cultural education encompassing the Made in Italy concept as a whole, combined with practical and technical training that enables graduates to work within Made in Italy enterprises as well as in the fields of food, gastronomy, and hospitality.
Course Information
- because tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality are key drivers of the Italian economy, and there is now a growing demand for advanced education and professional qualifications in these sectors
- because Italy is renowned worldwide for its typical products, cuisine, landscapes, and its extensive network of hospitality structures
- because this degree provides the cultural foundation to promote Made in Italy globally
- because the program was developed in partnership with Confcommercio and Coldiretti, in collaboration with the industry and companies operating in the sector, ensuring high-quality internships and placements and, upon graduation, greater employment opportunities
- because throughout the program, you will participate in a wide range of activities (seminars, field trips, workshops) that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the food and tourism industries
- because, thanks to the skills acquired, MICO graduates will be able either to enter the job market right away or to continue their studies by enrolling in master's degrees or postgraduate courses to specialize in various areas related to tourism and food, according to their interests (economics, law, communication, humanities, neuromarketing, health, etc.)
Except in cases of exemption, international students requiring a visa must demonstrate Italian language proficiency at level B2/CEFR.
The programme is designed for students to acquire the following knowledge and skills:
- an adequate understanding of the culture and history of Made in Italy
- a solid foundation in basic disciplines such as economics, geography, and psychology as they apply to tourism, food, and hospitality
- basic theoretical, methodological, and technical knowledge to analyse production systems in food, wine and gastronomy, and hospitality

- the necessary tools to conduct market analysis within tourism and Made in Italy-related industries
- basic knowledge for managing companies within the Made in Italy sector
- broad and diverse knowledge of agro-food production systems and gastronomic sciences

Graduates will be qualified to work in the field of import-export of Made in Italy products, and may also be employed by companies operating in the tourism, agri-food, and hospitality sectors, managing activities related to administration, marketing, promotion, and communication.
