Students regularly enrolled in Degree Programmes or Master's Degree Programmes may undertake study mobility experiences in countries outside the Erasmus Programme, thanks to specific agreements and collaboration protocols established with universities around the world (USA, China, Japan, etc.).
These mobility opportunities, supported by dedicated funds allocated annually by the University, are recognised within the student's academic programme.
Eligibility criteria, application procedures, training opportunities and available funding are detailed in the annual International Mobility Call for Applications, published each year between February and March.
International mobility for study purposes: who, where, how and when
Access to mobility programmes requires enrolment – for the academic year relevant to the mobility period – in one of the following study cycles at the University for Foreigners:
- Bachelor’s Degree Programme
- Master’s Degree Programme
- PhD Programme
- Master
Each international university sets its own language requirements that incoming students must meet to participate in a mobility programme. You should therefore check (on the host university's website or by contacting their mobility coordinator):
- what the language of instruction is at the host university
- what the minimum required level is
- whether you are required to provide an official certificate or any other documentation or proof of language proficiency
The activities you may undertake during your mobility must be closely related to the learning objectives of your study programme. Within these limits, and in full accordance with your Learning Agreement, during your international study mobility at the host University you may:
- attend courses and sit exams and assessments included in the study plan of the host University
- carry out activities relating to the preparation of your degree thesis
- engage in research activities relevant to the preparation of your doctoral thesis
- undertake a continuous combined mobility including the activities listed above
In light of the importance of carrying out high-quality international mobility aimed at activities at the host University, during the mobility period you are not permitted, under penalty of mobility cancellation and repayment of the mobility grant, to:
- attend courses or sit exams at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia
- graduate at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia
The countries where it is possible to undertake a mobility period, as well as the specific destination Universities, are explicitly indicated in each Call for Applications or Notice and in the related ProErasmus application. It is not permitted to carry out mobility in countries or at destinations other than those indicated.
In this section, you can find, where available, the information sheets (so-called "datasheets") received by the University from its international partner universities.

A mobility placement is generally associated with a support grant. The amount of this grant depends on a large number of variables (including: travel distance, destination country, means of travel, situations of fewer opportunities), and typically consists of the sum of:
- a main contribution from University funds
- additional contributions from Ministry of University funds
- further contributions from the Umbria Regional Agency for the Right to University Study
More precise details on the allocation of contributions can be found in the relevant Calls for Applications for mobility schemes; however, even in these documents, it is not always possible to specify the exact amount of certain contributions, as related funds become available only after the approval of the Call for Applications.
For a general overview, it may be helpful to know the following regarding the main contribution:
- this contribution is generally paid upon your arrival at your host destination and settled upon your return
- the amounts may range:
- for travel, from a minimum of €300.00 to a maximum of €1,100.00
- for accommodation, from a minimum of €400.00 to a maximum of €650.00 per month
Mobility normally takes place:
- in the academic year following the publication of the selection Call for Applications
- in accordance with the academic calendar of the host University
- between 1 June 2026 and 30 September of the following year.
What steps are required to initiate a mobility period?
An applicant selection process is required for the allocation of mobility opportunities. To this end:
- the Università per Stranieri di Perugia publishes a Call for Applications, inviting interested candidates to apply by a specified deadline through the ProErasmus platform;
- a selection committee reviews the applications and compiles a merit ranking;
- the Rector assigns the requested destinations, along with the associated scholarships, until available funds are exhausted.
Only if the assignments are fewer than the available funds, Università per Stranieri normally publishes a Supplementary Notice, in which eligible applications are prioritised based on the order of submission. In such cases, mobility places and scholarships are immediately allocated until the available funds are fully assigned.
The first step is to identify your mobility destination among those proposed by the University. This should be done well in advance of the application deadline set out in the Call for Applications, and you can usefully begin this process even before the Call is published.
When doing this, you should pay particular attention to verifying:
- that you meet the language requirements set by your chosen University
- that your academic progress aligns with the requirements of the host University
- that the educational offer of the host University is consistent with the learning objectives of your own Degree Programme, ensuring you can effectively select appropriate activities
The required information is:
- usually available on the international universities’ websites, in the section dedicated to Erasmus+ incoming mobility
- otherwise obtainable by corresponding with the Erasmus contacts at the international University, whose details are generally available in the ProErasmus platform or on the University’s website
Before applying for selection, you must have already finalised your learning plan. You are required to submit a separate learning plan for each of the mobility destinations you are interested in.
To create your learning plan, you must use the ProErasmus platform, which will prompt you to provide the following mandatory information step by step:
- your motivations, connected to your academic pathway, for selecting that particular destination
- the language skills you possess in relation to those required by the chosen University
- the semester in which you wish to undertake your mobility period
- the duration of your mobility period (number of months, or days in the case of short mobilities)
- the list of learning activities you intend to pursue at the chosen University, indicating the corresponding credits
- the hyperlink – URL – to the webpage of the chosen University containing the descriptions of the academic offer and other useful elements for the evaluation of your proposed learning plan
Your learning plan will be assessed by your mobility tutor, who – according to the deadlines specified in the Call for Applications – may:
- approve it, allowing you to proceed with submitting your application for that specific destination
- request modifications
- reject it with justification, in which case you may submit a new learning plan if you wish
Remember that a separate learning plan must be validated by your tutor for each destination.
You can submit an application for a Call for Applications or a Mobility Notice through the ProErasmus platform, which you can access using your institutional University login credentials.
Once you are in the dedicated ProErasmus area:
- you may select and confirm one or more study proposals approved by your tutor, authorising the submission of your application;
- you will receive an email confirming successful completion of the process;
- you will also receive an email once the selection procedure has been concluded, informing you of the outcome of your application.
What should I do after my mobility assignment?
The Erasmus and International Mobility Service will, immediately after your mobility assignment, notify the host University (the so-called "nomination"). In this way, the University where you will undertake your mobility period will be informed of all relevant details (your personal information, the mobility period, etc.).
At this point:
- The more organised Universities will promptly send you an email with instructions to help you decide whether to accept your mobility placement (the so-called "application" procedure), which usually involves an application form, proof of identity, and other required documents. However, the most important part of the application is the Learning Agreement, which will be explained in the next section.
- Alternatively, you may not receive any communication. In that case, it will be your responsibility to contact the host University to enquire about the "application" procedure.
The usual outcome of the application procedure is receipt of a letter of acceptance. However, it is possible that, due to incomplete documentation, missed deadlines, or simply unforeseen issues at the host University, the application may not be successful. If this occurs through no fault of your own, you will be entitled to access a new placement, provided you had indicated one and it had been approved by the committee.
After you have been assigned a mobility placement, you must ensure that your study plan is shared with and accepted by the host University by completing a Learning Agreement, which sets out the programme of study to be undertaken abroad and guarantees the recognition of credits earned.
To do this, you need to:
- check again that the academic offer of your chosen University still matches the activities you included in your approved study plan. Should there be any changes, you may adjust the Learning Agreement as needed, while remaining consistent with your original project;
- download, complete, sign and save as a .pdf the Learning Agreement extra-Erasmus Before the Mobility form
- then upload it to ProErasmus by accessing Phase B and subsequently selecting the document "LA extra-erasmus before the mobility" from the dropdown menu; fill in the required fields and finally authorise submission to your mobility tutor and the Rector’s Delegate for the Erasmus+ and international mobility programme
- wait to receive the outcome of the document evaluation, which will be communicated to you by e-mail.
- If the evaluation is positive, the document—already signed by the Rector’s Delegate for international mobility—will be sent to your institutional e-mail address. You are responsible for forwarding it to the host University for signature and subsequently to the Erasmus and International Mobility Service
The Learning Agreement is the most important part of the acceptance procedure at the host University. However, its signature does not replace the acceptance letter, which remains essential in order to finalise the financial agreement with the University for Foreigners of Perugia and receive your mobility grant.
Once your Learning Agreement has been finalised and you have received confirmation of acceptance from the host University, you must use the ProErasmus platform to sign – strictly before the start of your mobility – the financial mobility agreement, which sets out the rights and obligations of the parties.
You will therefore need to:
- access the dedicated function in ProErasmus (Phase D "Mobility Management" –> Function C "financial agreement") to create the agreement;
- enter the required information in the guided procedure (mobility dates, type of travel and bank details) and submit it to the Erasmus and International Mobility Service;
- wait for an email notification confirming the validation of the agreement by the Erasmus and International Mobility Service;
- download, sign and upload the agreement in the system, authorising its submission to the University’s Legal Representative for signature;
- wait for an email notification confirming the completion of the financial agreement process.
Once you have finalised your Learning Agreement and financial agreement, it is in your interest to proceed as soon as possible to:
- check the healthcare services available abroad, taking out insurance where necessary
- check the entry and registration procedures in the host country (e.g. entry visa for non-EU students)
- search for accommodation (you may use services offered by the host University)
- purchase your travel ticket
Please note that universities usually organise a welcome and orientation event for international students at the beginning of each semester. Ensure that you arrive in good time to participate in this or any other event organised by the host University.
How should I manage the mobility period?
Upon arrival at the host University, you are required to report immediately for an initial meeting with the representatives of the host institution (usually at the International Relations Office) in order to obtain the Certificate of Arrival and Registration.
The date indicated on the certificate will be used to calculate the grant you will receive. For this purpose, you must promptly email a scanned copy of the certificate to erasmus@unistrapg.it.
It may happen that during your mobility period, for various reasons, you consider it necessary to make changes to your Learning Agreement. This is only possible within the first 30 days following the start date of your mobility.
To do this, you must:
- make informal contact with your mobility tutor as well as the contact person for international mobility at the host University, to ensure the appropriateness of your initiative
- download, complete, sign and save in .pdf format the Learning Agreement during the mobility form
- upload it to proErasmus by accessing Phase B and selecting from the drop-down menu the document named "LA extra-erasmus during the mobility"
- fill in all mandatory fields and authorise submission to your mobility tutor and to the Rector's Delegate for International Mobility
- wait to be informed by email of the outcome of the document review; if approved, you will receive your proposal for the Learning Agreement During the Mobility signed by the Rector's Delegate for International Mobility
- then send the document to the host University so that it can be signed by the relevant authority and finally sent back to Erasmus and International Mobility Service at erasmus@unistrapg.it
The extension must be requested at least 30 days before the original end date. Only in the case of a second extension, the notice period is reduced to 15 days.
To do this you must:
- make informal contact with your mobility tutor as well as with the Erasmus contact person at the host University, to ensure the appropriateness of your request
- download, complete, sign, and save in .pdf format the extension request form. Only if you intend to add new learning activities during the requested extension period, you must also attach the proposed Learning Agreement During the Mobility to the extension request (as a single .pdf file including both the extension request and the Learning Agreement During the Mobility)
- upload it in ProErasmus by accessing Phase B and selecting “extra-Erasmus mobility extension” from the dropdown menu
- complete the required fields and finally authorise the submission to your mobility tutor and to the Rector’s delegate for international mobility
- wait to receive notification of the outcome of the document assessment via email; if successful, you will receive at your institutional email address the “extra-Erasmus mobility extension request” document, already signed by the Rector’s delegate for international mobility
- it is then your responsibility to forward the document to the host University, so that it may be signed by the designated contact and returned to the Erasmus and International Mobility Service
At the end of your mobility period, you will need to:
- Request and obtain the Final Mobility Certificate before your departure. Without this certificate, your mobility period cannot be validated and you will be required to return any funds received. This document:
- Must be signed and, where possible, stamped by the mobility coordinator at the host institution
- Must indicate the actual start and end dates of your mobility period
- Request and obtain the Transcript of Records before your departure. This is the document in which the host University certifies the activities you completed during your mobility period. Without this certificate, your activities will not be recognised.
These documents must be uploaded to the ProErasmus application, in the section dedicated to the management and reporting of mobility activities (Function D).
If, and only if, the host University is unable to provide you with the required documents in hard copy before your departure, you may obtain them at a later date, including through direct transmission by email to the Erasmus and International Mobility Service of the Università per Stranieri di Perugia at erasmus@unistrapg.it.
The Transcript of Records issued by the host University is the basis for applying for recognition of activities carried out during your mobility period. To this end, you will need to:
- download, complete, sign, and send the form below via e-mail to erasmus@unistrapg.it. The form will be subject to evaluation by the Rector’s Erasmus+ and International Mobility Delegate
- await the outcome of the evaluation, after which—if approved—the recognised activities will be recorded in your student record

Useful information and links
Each Department appoints, for every Degree Programme, a faculty member as “mobility tutor”, who is responsible for:
- coordinating mobility-related activities within the relevant Degree Programme
- providing guidance on the academic and training opportunities offered by host institutions
- assisting in preparing the study or training plan to be carried out at the host institution
The staff of the Erasmus and International Mobility Service, in collaboration with the Rector’s Delegate for Mobility, usually organises:
- a seminar dedicated to presenting the Call for Mobility Applications
- an orientation seminar for students awarded international mobility places, which provides a detailed overview of the steps required for submitting applications and approving the Learning Agreement
- a pre-departure orientation seminar (check), which offers guidance on organising and correctly managing all procedures related to the mobility period and the relevant documentation
The dates of the seminars are communicated to students by email.
