The internship will take place at the operational sites of the Comunità di Sant'Egidio ACAP APS.

Intercultural mediation is a tool to promote the integration of foreign citizens in the local area and to enhance diversity, recognised by Legislative Decree No. 286/1998, particularly with reference to Articles 38 and 42. Today, the professional role of the intercultural mediator is required in various fields, including, but not limited to: education and training; cultural inclusion; civic participation; healthcare; justice and criminal execution; access to social services and public administration; administrative procedures regarding immigration, citizenship and asylum; and the use of universal public services.

To be admitted to the degree programme, the following are required:

  1. A secondary school leaving qualification obtained in Italy or abroad
  2. A language proficiency certificate at least at B1 level (for non-Italian citizens only) and a cultural assessment (for all candidates)

  1. Carefully read the Call for Applications for the degree programme
  2. By 12:00 noon on 9 November 2026, submit your application for admission through the dedicated online procedure available on the Esse3WEB (Cineca) platform at: https://unistrapg.esse3.cineca.it.

    ATTENTION! To complete your application you will need the following:
    1. Information on your upper secondary school qualification, which must be declared in the “QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION” section;
    2. The following documents, to be uploaded in PDF, JPG or PNG format in the “DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT FOR EVALUATION” section:
    - a valid identity document
    - documentation of your upper secondary school qualification if obtained outside Italy
    - a permit to stay in Italy if you are a citizen of a non-EU country other than Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, San Marino or Vatican City, and are resident or domiciled in Italy.
  3. Attend the linguistic and cultural suitability interview
    The selection will be organised by the Comunità di S. Egidio ACAP APS, at the venue in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, no. 23 (Rome) on the following three days:
    - Thursday, 26 November 2026, from 17:00 to 20:00
    - Sunday, 29 November 2026, from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00
    - Thursday, 3 December, from 17:00 to 20:00
    When completing your application, you must indicate the date on which you wish to attend the interview.
  4. Check admission to the degree programme: the list of admitted candidates will be published on this page from 16 December 2026. In addition, each candidate can view the results in their personal area on Esse3WEB at the same time.
  5. Finalise your enrolment and pay the degree programme registration fee (€200.00) by 11 January 2027 in your personal area on Esse3WEB.

The programme consists of:

  • 320 hours of classroom teaching, structured into 13 teaching modules covering applied social sciences, legal-economic subjects and historical-political subjects.
    Classes will be held in person at the premises of the Comunità di Sant’Egidio ACAP APS (Via San Gallicano, n. 25/A – Rome).
  • 180 hours of internship.

What does the internship consist of?

The internship takes place at the operational locations of the Comunità di S. Egidio ACAP APS and may involve the following types of activities:

  1. Reception and mediation services at canteens and listening centres; medical hub
  2. Outreach activities for homeless people
  3. Support and guidance with administrative procedures relating to immigration, residency, social security, as well as healthcare procedures
  4. Cultural mediation activities in family, school, and community relations, with particular attention to families with a migration background and to older persons

Is attendance compulsory?

Attendance is compulsory for at least 70% of classroom activities and 70% of internship activities.

Are there any assessments?

At the end of the programme, a written assessment will cover the topics addressed in the 13 teaching modules.
At the end of the internship, a report on the activities carried out must be submitted, which will be discussed in a final interview.

Teaching activities will take place from 28 January to 7 November 2027.

Classes will be held on Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons, at the following times:

  • Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Upon completion of the course, the University for Foreigners of Perugia will issue the following certificates to participants:

  • certificate of course completion with the award of 40 ECTS credits for students who have met the attendance requirements and passed the assessments
  • certificate of attendance, without awarding ECTS credits, for those admitted to participate without the required entry qualification
