Master's Degree in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS)

• develop specialized training in contemporary international relations, in the arenas and actors of global governance, in major geopolitical issues, in the spread of democratization processes, in the institutions of emerging countries, in the cooperation policies of international institutions, in economic development policies, and in the dynamics of international journalism
• possess specific expertise in the functioning of international economic institutions, in issues such as debt and sustainable growth, in bilateral, multilateral, decentralized, and non-governmental cooperation policies, in relations between emerging countries, in regionalization and decentralization processes, in techniques for conflict transformation and regulation, in political doctrines of global development, and in the role of media and international public opinion
• develop interdisciplinary knowledge and acquire methodological tools to design, coordinate, and implement international cooperation initiatives in the fields of economic development, institutional strengthening, environmental sustainability, and human rights protection
• achieve a high level of proficiency in at least two foreign languages

Graduates are employed in organizations, public and private entities, both national and international, economic enterprises and non-profit organizations, operating in Italy and abroad, which, in various capacities, interact with the international context and with developing countries.

Graduates may also assume positions of responsibility and management within organizations representing collective interests (political parties, employers’ and workers’ unions, associations for the protection of the environment and human rights), as well as national or supranational associations of a humanitarian, cultural, or scientific nature.

The master’s degree program provides training suitable for the following professional roles:

• ambassador, executive, and officer in diplomatic careers
• project manager, consultant, and practitioner in the field of development cooperation
• manager in the “internationalization” sector of small and medium-sized enterprises
• expert in humanitarian emergency programs
• manager in communication, public relations, and research and development units
• junior officer in intergovernmental and non-governmental international organizations
• internal and external communication manager in multinational corporations and international groups
• public relations specialist
• specialist in political science and international analyst
• expert in institutional communication
• manager in environmental protection agencies at national and international levels
• expert in environmental and cooperation projects
• disaster manager and risk manager in environmental contexts
• consultant in environmental economics and policy for public and private institutions

*The 9 ECTS allocated for foreign language courses include 3 ECTS taught by a native speaker/CEL.

To be admitted to the Master’s Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or a university diploma of at least three years’ duration or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable. In addition, students wishing to enrol in this programme must:

• meet the required curricular prerequisites
• pass an entrance interview. Candidates may only take the interview if they meet the curricular prerequisites

Curricular Prerequisites

To be eligible for admission, students must demonstrate preliminary curricular knowledge amounting to a total of 51 ECTS credits in the following subject areas:

Credits exceeding the 180 ECTS normally required for the bachelor’s degree may be included in this total, provided they were obtained in courses relevant to the subjects and sectors listed above. Similarly, relevant language certifications and internship experiences that have not already been counted towards the bachelor’s degree may also be included in the calculation if they pertain to the listed subject areas and sectors.

If any ECTS credits are needed to fulfil the curricular prerequisites, these must be obtained before enrolling in the Master’s Degree Programme and prior to the individual preparation assessment, at any university, in the form of “single courses” within first-cycle degree programmes.

The possession of curricular prerequisites will be verified by the University’s Degree Programme and Teaching Office, to which students may submit their documentation via e-mail at segreteria.laurea@unistrapg.it or deliver it in person at the office (Palazzina Orvieto, Viale C. Manuali, 9 - 06123 Perugia).

For the verification of curricular prerequisites, students must present the following documents:

• a copy of the degree certificate (for graduates), including a transcript of exams taken, specifying acquired credits and the corresponding disciplinary sectors
• a copy of the transcript of exams taken and to be taken (for students about to graduate), specifying acquired and pending credits and the corresponding disciplinary sectors.
