The Department of International Human and Social Sciences was established on 1 January 2022, consolidating and integrating the University’s fundamental international orientation, in line with the current Statute, which in its first article assigns the University “to intercultural dialogue, communication, and international cooperation, in connection with the local area and its representative institutions, as well as with national and international institutions with similar aims.”
Within this framework, the Department addresses the challenges facing multicultural societies and the international community, adopting a multidisciplinary approach and leveraging the language expertise developed by the University.
The Department primarily focuses on developing integrated and complex knowledge that combines aspects of technological and scientific innovation with those of the human and social sciences, fostering the interconnection of knowledge, with particular attention to international relations, cooperation, sustainable development, and media ecosystems.
The aim is to achieve a positive synthesis between advanced specialised education and an interdisciplinary approach, fostering a new relationship between contemporaneity and tradition, between theoretical reflection and practice, and between the global and the local, as well as between sustainability and development.
These objectives are mainly pursued through degree programmes, but also encompass doctoral programmes, master’s degrees, continuing education courses, and other training initiatives in collaboration with institutions, businesses, the social sector, and research centres.
Consequently, the research lines developed by the Department’s academics and researchers are both inter- and multidisciplinary, and include participation in European and international projects across various fields: political science, history, philosophy, sociology, economics, engineering, law, management, computer science, and sustainability.
