Artificial Intelligence at the University for Foreigners of Perugia

The Università per Stranieri di Perugia utilises artificial intelligence systems in support of certain institutional, administrative, teaching, and information activities.

The University adopts these technologies according to principles of transparency, accountability, security, personal data protection, and human oversight, in compliance with applicable European and national regulations, with particular reference to Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act) and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

Artificial intelligence systems are used for specific purposes and in ways that are proportionate to the activities carried out. Where artificial intelligence is used to support administrative processes, responsibility for activities and decisions remains with the competent members of the University staff.

For artificial intelligence services involving data processing through external APIs, the University employs Zero Data Retention (ZDR) configurations. This configuration is intended to prevent the retention of data transmitted to the service provider beyond what is necessary for the requested processing, according to the technical characteristics and contractual terms applicable to each service.

The University maintains a catalogue of the main artificial intelligence systems and services in use, describing their purpose, operating mode, the role of artificial intelligence, and key safeguards.
