Bachelor's Degree in Made in Italy, Food, and Hospitality (MICO)

course summary sheet

This programme is highly innovative: it is the only one in Italy to combine the curriculum and educational objectives of two degree classes: Tourism Sciences and Sciences, Cultures and Policies of Gastronomy.

Through its inter-class structure, the programme aims to provide both a comprehensive cultural understanding of the Made in Italy concept and practical technical training, enabling graduates to work in Made in Italy enterprises as well as in the fields of food, gastronomy, and hospitality.

Course Information

  • because tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality are key sectors driving the Italian economy and there is an increasing demand for advanced training and qualifications in these fields
  • because Italy is internationally renowned for its local products, cuisine, landscapes, and extensive hospitality infrastructure
  • because this degree provides the cultural knowledge necessary to promote Made in Italy excellence worldwide
  • because this programme is developed in collaboration with Confcommercio and Coldiretti, and therefore with the industry and businesses operating in the sector, ensuring access to high-quality internships and placements and, after graduation, enhanced career opportunities
  • because throughout the programme, a range of activities (seminars, study visits, workshops) are organised to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical world of food and tourism
  • because with the skills gained, MICO graduates will be able to enter the workforce or continue their studies by enrolling in master’s or second-cycle degree programmes to specialise in various areas related to tourism and food, according to their interests and preferences (economics, law, communication, humanities, neuromarketing, health, etc.)

The course is designed to provide the following knowledge and skills:

  • a sound understanding of the culture and history of Made in Italy
  • a solid foundation in core disciplines including economics, geography, and psychology as applied to tourism, food, and hospitality
  • theoretical, methodological, and technical knowledge required to analyse food production systems, gastronomy, and hospitality
  • strong knowledge and skills in marketing and communication, enabling the analysis and management of operational tools for the dissemination and promotion of food and tourism products, sectors, and cultures
  • the necessary tools to conduct market analysis in tourism and industries related to Made in Italy
  • basic knowledge required for the management of businesses operating in the Made in Italy sector
  • a broad and diverse understanding of agro-food production systems and gastronomic sciences
  • expertise in certified food production

Graduates will be able to work in the import-export sector of Made in Italy products, as well as in companies operating in tourism, agri-food and hospitality, focusing on management, marketing, promotion, and communication.

Main career opportunities:

  • specialist in the international marketing of Italian-made goods and services
  • public relations, marketing, and sales manager in companies in the tourism, food, and hospitality sectors
  • content creator specializing in Made in Italy, food and wine, and cultural promotion
