Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation – PCTO

"From Knowledge ...to Know-How"

From Knowledge to Skills

The new MIUR Guidelines, drafted in accordance with the provisions of Law 30 December 2018, no. 145, have renamed and redesigned the “Alternanza scuola lavoro” programs (Legislative Decree 15 April 2005, no. 77) as “Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation” – PCTO.

Through practical experience, PCTOs enable upper secondary school students to consolidate and enrich the knowledge acquired at school by testing their personal aptitudes in real-world contexts, thereby further supporting their individual development and helping them choose their future academic path.

According to current regulations, PCTO (Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation) remain a mandatory experience with the following minimum duration:

  • 210 hours in the last three years of vocational institutes
  • 150 hours in the second biennium and final year of technical institutes
  • 90 hours in the second biennium and fifth year of upper secondary schools (licei)

The Università per Stranieri di Perugia continues to participate in the implementation of these orientation pathways, organizing activities as planned and defined in individual training plans within its administrative offices and laboratories. These activities are coordinated and supervised by the Guidance Service.

To undertake an internship at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, you must follow the procedures required by current legislation and, in compliance with safety regulations, establish specific agreements and training plans.

To properly initiate the aforementioned internships, it is necessary to organise, either within the Institutes or at the University, thematic orientation seminars and training meetings with staff from the Orientation Service, as preparatory steps for possible internship periods.

Applications submitted by individual Institutes are reviewed by the Orientation Service based on the availability of University offices and the proposed educational projects. For each department, a specific training project is drawn up, to be signed by both the Institute tutor and the University tutor (the head of the relevant University department). Priority for internship placements is given to educational institutions with which established collaboration and guidance activities have already been developed.
