Master’s Degree in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Image Culture (ComPSI)

course overview

The Master's degree program in Advertising Communication, Storytelling, and Visual Culture, offered by the Department of International Human and Social Sciences, trains specialists in strategic management for the field of communication, equipping them to enhance the internal and external image of institutions and businesses. In addition to a strong theoretical foundation in strategic communication, graduates of this program gain advanced skills in designing and developing communication plans, including at the international level thanks to fluency in multiple foreign languages.

Course information

  • develop in-depth knowledge in the linguistic-semiotic and sociological fields, essential for managing communication techniques, with particular emphasis on the drafting of advertising texts
  • acquire skills in the conception and production of audiovisual and digital products in advertising and corporate communication
  • gain specific expertise in the design and development of communication strategies
  • develop theoretical and technical knowledge of various communication media
  • acquire tools for psychosocial, qualitative, and quantitative analysis to monitor and assess communication outputs
  • achieve proficiency in two European Union languages and their respective professional communication registers
  • develop skills in the promotion, management, and use of information and communication technologies

Graduates will be able to assume responsible roles in communication within public, private, and non-profit organizations, both in Italy and internationally; in communication and advertising agencies, press and public relations offices, publishing and multimedia companies, media centers, and television and film production companies. Additional professional fields include editorial teams of radio, television, and online outlets, newspapers and magazines, and news agencies.

The programme describes the following specific professional profiles:

  • art director, copywriter, account manager, media planner
  • head of communication and marketing
  • audiovisual and multimedia product designer
  • press officer
  • web master, web designer, web content manager
  • specialist or manager in news management and media relations strategies

The Master’s Degree in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Corporate Culture, LM92 (Theory of Communication), qualifies graduates to access the new teaching subject area: A-65 Theory and Technique of Communication. This subject may be taught in the final two years of Technical Institutes, Technological sector, Graphics and Communication track.

To obtain eligibility for access to this teaching subject area, second-year students must include in their study plan the International Journalism Sociology exam held by Prof. Rolando Marini (SPS/08), part of the RICS Master’s Degree Programme.

** Elective activities are autonomously chosen by the student from Bachelor’s degrees of the same level offered by the University. Additionally, the programme recommends the suggested options as they are considered coherent with the curriculum’s content and learning outcomes.

To be admitted to the Master's degree programme in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Visual Culture, students must hold a three-year university degree or diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as equivalent. In addition, to register for the programme, students must:

  • meet the required curricular prerequisites
  • pass an entrance interview. Candidates may take the interview only if they meet the curricular requirements.

Admission to the Master's degree programme in Advertising Communication, Storytelling and Visual Culture is subject to possession of a three-year Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, in one of the following classes: L5, L-10, L-11, L12, L-15, L-18, L-24, L-33, L-36, L-37, L-39, L-40, L-20, L-GASTR, or to the possession of curricular prerequisites amounting to a total of 60 ECTS credits (CFU) in the following Academic Subject Areas (SSD):

Any surplus credits earned in addition to the required 180 ECTS for the Bachelor’s degree may be included in the calculation, provided they pertain to the relevant fields and subject areas. Similarly, relevant language and/or IT certifications and/or relevant internship experiences not already counted towards the Bachelor’s degree may also be considered.

Any additional credits needed to meet the curricular requirements must be obtained—before registering for the Master's degree and before the individual assessment—at any university, through “single course” enrolment in first-cycle (Bachelor's) programmes.

The Secretariat for Degree Programmes and Teaching will verify fulfillment of curricular requirements. Students may submit their documentation by e-mail to segreteria.laurea@unistrapg.it or deliver it directly to the Secretariat (Palazzina Orvieto, Viale C. Manuali, 9 - 06123 Perugia).

To verify curricular requirements, students must present:

  • a copy of the degree certificate (for graduates), including a list of exams taken, the number of credits earned, and the relevant subject areas
  • a copy of the certificate of exams taken and to be taken (for graduating students), specifying both the credits already earned and those remaining, as well as the relevant subject areas.
