Bachelor’s Degree in Made in Italy, Food and Hospitality (MICO)

course overview

This programme, offered by the Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts Worldwide, is highly innovative: it is the only one in Italy that integrates the curriculum and learning objectives of two degree classes—Tourism Sciences and Sciences, Cultures and Policies of Gastronomy.

Through this joint degree, the programme aims to provide a comprehensive cultural education on the broad concept of Made in Italy, alongside practical and technical training that enables graduates to work in Made in Italy enterprises and in the fields of food, gastronomy and hospitality.

Course Information

  • because tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality are key drivers of the Italian economy, and today, these sectors require increasingly advanced training and qualifications
  • because Italy is renowned worldwide for its typical products, cuisine, landscapes, and the extensive network of its hospitality structures
  • because this programme provides a strong cultural foundation to promote Made in Italy across the globe
  • because the programme was developed in collaboration with Confcommercio and Coldiretti, and therefore with the business world and companies in the sector, ensuring high-quality internships and placements as well as greater employment opportunities for graduates
  • because the programme includes various activities (seminars, field trips, workshops) that bridge theoretical knowledge with the practical world of food and tourism
  • because, thanks to the skills acquired, MICO graduates can either enter the job market or continue their education by pursuing master's programmes or advanced degrees to specialise in various areas related to tourism and food according to their interests and preferences (economics, law, communication, humanities, neuromarketing, health, etc.)

The course provides for the acquisition of the following knowledge and skills:

  • an adequate understanding of the culture and history of Made in Italy
  • a solid grounding in the basic economic, geographical, and psychological disciplines applied to tourism, food, and hospitality
  • foundational knowledge (theoretical, methodological, and technical) for the analysis of food production systems, gastronomy, and hospitality

  • a broad and diverse understanding of the fields and systems of agri-food production and gastronomic sciences
