In line with the historic vocation of the University for Foreigners of Perugia as an ambassador for the Italian language and culture worldwide, the Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts Worldwide, established on 1 January 2022, is primarily dedicated to the study, promotion, and dissemination of Italy’s rich cultural heritage. This includes the national language with its varieties, literature, the arts, music, theatre, cinema, and audiovisual media, in synergy with the local area and with national and international institutions pursuing similar aims.
The Department fosters processes of internationalisation and communication to facilitate intercultural dialogue aimed at promoting the Italian language and culture. It encourages national and international collaboration and synergies to drive innovation in teaching and research.
The humanities disciplines are consistently approached with a focus on Heritage (art, cinema, literature) and Made in Italy, providing a broad and diachronic perspective on Italian culture. This is further strengthened by the study of European and non-European languages and literatures.
Courses in Italian language and culture—the founding core of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, inaugurated in 1921—offer a wide range of programmes for international students, those enrolled in Degree Programmes at Italian and international universities, and all enthusiasts of the Italian language and culture, employing advanced teaching and learning methodologies.
As a hub for major international research projects, the Department serves as a centre from which multiple connections extend to all places worldwide where the knowledge of Italy’s invaluable cultural heritage is promoted.
