Master's Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS)

• develop specialized training in contemporary international relations, global governance arenas and actors, key geopolitical issues, the spread of democratization processes, institutions of emerging countries, international institutions’ cooperation policies, economic development policies, and the dynamics of international journalism
• possess specific competencies regarding the functioning of international economic institutions, issues related to debt and sustainable growth, bilateral, multilateral, decentralized and non-governmental cooperation policies, relations among emerging countries, processes of regionalization and decentralization, conflict transformation and regulation techniques, political doctrines of global development, and the role of media and international public opinion
• develop interdisciplinary knowledge and acquire methodological tools to design, coordinate and implement international cooperation initiatives in the fields of economic development, institutional consolidation, environmental sustainability, and human rights protection
• achieve a high level of proficiency in at least two foreign languages

Graduates can find employment in organizations, public and private entities, both national and international, economic enterprises and non-profit organizations operating in Italy and abroad, and which, in various ways, engage with the international context and developing countries.

Graduates may also take on roles of responsibility and management within organizations representing collective interests (political parties, employers' and workers' unions, associations for the protection of the environment and human rights), as well as national or supranational associations with humanitarian, cultural, or scientific purposes.

The Master's degree programme provides training suitable for pursuing careers such as:

• ambassador, executive, and officer within the diplomatic corps
• project designer, consultant, and practitioner in the field of development cooperation
• manager in the “internationalization” sector of small and medium-sized enterprises
• expert in humanitarian emergency programs
• manager in communication, public relations, or research and development departments
• junior officer in governmental and non-governmental international organizations
• internal and external communications manager in multinational companies and international groups
• public relations specialist
• specialist in political science and international analyst
• expert in institutional communication
• manager in national and international environmental protection agencies
• expert in cooperation and environmental projects
• disaster manager or risk manager in environmental contexts
• consultant in environmental economics and policy for public and private institutions

*The 9 ECTS credits for foreign language courses include 3 ECTS taught by a native speaker language instructor.
** Elective courses are chosen independently by students from degree programmes at the same level within the Course of Studies.

To enroll in the Master’s Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable. In addition, students wishing to enroll in the aforementioned programme must:

• meet the required curricular requirements
• take an admission interview. Candidates may attend the interview provided they meet the curricular requirements

Curricular Requirements

In order to enroll, students must have preliminary curricular knowledge totalling at least 51 ECTS credits (CFU) in the following subject areas:

Any additional credits earned beyond the 180 normally required for a Bachelor’s degree programme—if obtained in relevant subjects and sectors as indicated above—may be included in the calculation. Likewise, relevant language certifications and internship experiences, where not already included in the Bachelor’s degree, may also be counted towards the total credits, provided they are pertinent to the areas and sectors listed above.

Any additional ECTS credits necessary to meet the curricular requirements must be acquired before enrolling in the Master’s degree programme and before the individual academic preparation assessment. These credits may be obtained at any university as “single courses” within first-cycle study programmes.

The fulfillment of curricular requirements will be verified by the University’s Degree Programme and Teaching Office. Students may submit their documentation by email to segreteria.laurea@unistrapg.it or deliver it in person to the office (Palazzina Orvieto, Viale C. Manuali, 9 - 06123 Perugia).

For the verification of curricular requirements, students must submit the following documents:

• a copy of the diploma certificate (for graduates), including the list of exams taken with the corresponding ECTS credits and scientific-disciplinary sectors
• a copy of the transcript of exams taken and to be taken (for graduands), with ECTS credits already earned and to be earned, and the related scientific-disciplinary sectors.
