Degree Programme in Italian Language and Culture in the Digital World (LiCIMoD)

• develop a solid foundation in the methodological and historical aspects of linguistic, philological and literary studies, with particular emphasis on an in-depth knowledge of the history, structure, synchronic and diachronic variation, and uses of the Italian language
• provide essential knowledge in the fields of art, history and geography, with particular attention to Italy's role within the history and culture of Europe (geographical and historical-artistic area)
• possess basic skills in language teaching methodology and in teaching Italian as a non-native language, as well as core competencies in the academic fields relating to Italian culture
• be able to convey these contents to students with varying proficiency levels (area of Italian language teaching)
• develop proficiency in at least one language other than Italian (English or Spanish, with the option to choose a non-European language such as Arabic, Chinese or Japanese) (linguistic, philological and literary area)
• possess knowledge relating to digital tools applied to the humanities and to teaching the Italian language, enabling effective communication, promotion and teaching of Italian culture and language in ways appropriate to contemporary needs

For the digital curriculum, the specific objectives are:

• achieve a solid foundation in Italian literature, linguistics, language teaching, history, philology and the arts, from a digital perspective
• possess knowledge of digital tools applied to the humanities, enabling the study, promotion and teaching of Italian culture and language in the digital world
• acquire fundamental knowledge of HTML, TEI annotation, basic coding skills, and applications of Artificial Intelligence in the humanities, including writing programmes

For the cultural curriculum, the specific objectives are:

• achieve a solid foundation in Italian literature, linguistics, language teaching, philology, music and the arts, from a didactic and international perspective, enabling the study, teaching and promotion of Italian culture in innovative ways in Italy and abroad, with a multicultural outlook
• deepen knowledge in history, geography and art, with particular reference to Italy's role within the history and culture of Europe and the wider world
• acquire basic knowledge of a non-European language (Arabic or Chinese)

Graduates in Italian Language and Culture in the Digital World will be qualified to work in the following professional fields:

• public bodies, cooperatives and companies involved in the management and promotion of cultural content
• training providers: e-learning and the application of information and communication technologies to learning processes
• cultural heritage: creation and management of archives, digital libraries, virtual museums, information retrieval
• software companies specialising in linguistic and cultural content management
• universities (e-learning, educational management)
• public administrations and cooperatives: internal and external communication (web content management), staff training (e-learning)
• companies and foundations: internal and external communication, cultural management and promotion through digital tools, staff training (e-learning)

Cultural Curriculum

• public bodies, cooperatives and companies involved in the management and promotion of cultural content
• teaching Italian language and culture to both foreign nationals and Italians in public and private institutions or within associations and non-profit organisations, in foreign institutions, and in Italian diplomatic offices
• linguistic and cultural mediation in public and private schools in Italy and abroad, as well as in public bodies
• consultancy services for institutions engaged in the promotion of Italian language and culture
• foundations and public administrations: promotion and organisation of cultural events and enhancement of historical and cultural heritage

* The 9 ECTS credits for foreign language courses include 3 ECTS taught by a native speaker instructor
