Bachelor’s Degree in Made in Italy, Food and Hospitality (MICO)

course overview

This programme, part of the Department of Italian Language, Literature, and Arts in the World, is highly innovative: it is the only one in Italy to combine the curriculum and learning objectives of two degree classes: Tourism Sciences and Sciences, Cultures and Policies of Gastronomy.

Through this interdisciplinary approach, the programme aims to provide a comprehensive cultural education on the Made in Italy brand as a whole, alongside technical and practical training that prepares graduates to work in Made in Italy enterprises and in the fields of food, gastronomy, and hospitality.

Course Information

  • because tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality are key sectors driving the Italian economy, and there is a growing demand for advanced training and professional qualifications in these fields
  • because Italy is internationally renowned for its traditional products, cuisine, landscapes, and hospitality network
  • because the program provides a cultural foundation for promoting Made in Italy worldwide
  • because the course is developed in partnership with Confcommercio and Coldiretti, connecting directly with the workforce and leading companies in the sector to ensure high-quality internships and traineeships, as well as enhanced employment opportunities after graduation
  • because the program offers numerous activities (seminars, field trips, workshops) that bridge theoretical knowledge with the practical world of food and tourism
  • because, thanks to the education acquired, MICO graduates can either enter the job market or continue their studies by enrolling in Master’s degrees or second-cycle programs to specialize in various fields related to tourism and food based on their interests and preferences (economics, law, communication, humanities, neuromarketing, health, etc.)

The programme provides for the acquisition of the following knowledge and skills:

  • an adequate understanding of the culture and history of Made in Italy
  • a solid grounding in core subjects such as economics, geography, and psychology as applied to tourism, food, and hospitality
  • fundamental theoretical, methodological and technical knowledge for analysing systems of food production, gastronomy, and hospitality
  • sound knowledge and skills in marketing and communication, aimed at the ability to analyse and use operational tools for the dissemination and promotion of products, sectors, and cultures related to food and tourism
  • the necessary tools to conduct market analysis in the tourism sector and in industries connected to Made in Italy
  • basic knowledge for the management of Made in Italy enterprises
  • a broad and diverse understanding of the areas and systems of agri-food production and gastronomic sciences
  • competences relating to certified food production

Graduates will be able to work in the import-export sector of Made in Italy products. They may also work in companies in the tourism, agri-food, and hospitality industries, focusing on management, marketing, promotion, and communication.
