This programme, offered by the Department of Italian Language, Literature and Arts in the World, is designed for both Italian and international students with adequate proficiency in Italian, who are interested in studying, teaching, and promoting Italian culture and civilization.
Through this programme, students acquire a strong foundation in literary, linguistic-philological, geographic, historical-artistic, and Italian language teaching fields. At the same time, students gain proficiency in information technology tools applied to the humanities and language teaching, addressing the evolving demands of the job market. Thus, the critical knowledge characteristic of the humanities is complemented by the technical skills typical of scientific disciplines, fostering an integrated development of knowledge, attitudes, and practical abilities.
Humanities content is addressed from an international perspective, thanks also to courses in Chinese language and culture and Arabic language and civilization, and is organized through two curricula: Digital and Cultural.
This course represents the first step in a study path that has distinguished this university since its origins as an ambassador of Italian language and culture worldwide. LiCIMoD graduates have the opportunity to further deepen the skills acquired either in the Master's Degree in Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language or in the Advanced Master's dedicated to the teaching of Italian as a non-native language.
Students have the opportunity to undertake an internship within the Italian language and culture courses for foreign students offered at the University, as well as at other institutions and private organizations engaged in the promotion and enhancement of cultural content.
The study program includes the acquisition of part of the ECTS credits in the specific academic fields required for entry into the teacher qualification class for teaching Italian as a foreign language in Italian public schools (Class A-23, Italian language for learners of foreign origin). Those who wish to complete the required credits may continue this pathway with the ITAS Master's Degree.
Course Information
- to develop a solid foundational, methodological, and historical background in linguistic, philological, and literary studies, with particular reference to an in-depth understanding of the history, structure, synchronic and diachronic variation, and uses of the Italian language
- to provide essential knowledge in the fields of art, history, and geography, with specific reference to Italy's place in the context of European history and culture (geographical and historical-artistic area)
- to acquire basic skills in language teaching methodologies and in teaching Italian as a non-native language, as well as fundamental knowledge in the scientific-disciplinary areas of Italian culture
- to be able to convey content to students with varying levels of language proficiency (area of teaching Italian)
- to develop proficiency in at least one language other than Italian (English or Spanish, with the option to choose a distant language such as Arabic, Chinese, or Japanese) (linguistic-philological-literary area)
- to acquire knowledge of digital tools applied to the humanities and to the teaching of the Italian language, enabling effective communication, promotion, and teaching of Italian culture and language in ways suited to current needs
For the digital track, the specific objectives are:
- to achieve a strong foundational background in literature, linguistics, language teaching, history, philology, and Italian arts from a digital perspective
- to acquire knowledge of IT tools applied to the humanities, enabling the study, promotion, and teaching of Italian language and culture in the digital world
- to develop basic knowledge of HTML, TEI annotation, the fundamentals of coding, and applications of Artificial Intelligence in the humanities, including writing software
For the cultural track, the specific objectives are:
- to achieve a strong foundational background in Italian literature, linguistics, language teaching, philology, music, and arts with a didactic and international perspective, enabling the study, teaching, and promotion of Italian culture in innovative ways in Italy and abroad, and from a multicultural viewpoint
- to deepen knowledge in history, geography, and the arts with particular reference to Italy's place in the context of European and global history and culture
- to acquire basic knowledge of a distant language (Arabic or Chinese)
Graduates in Italian Language and Culture in the Digital World will be able to work in the following professional fields:

- companies and foundations: internal and external communication, cultural management and promotion through digital tools, staff training (e-learning)
Cultural Curriculum
- public institutions, cooperatives, and companies engaged in the management and promotion of cultural content
- teaching Italian language and culture to foreigners and Italians in public and private institutions or with associations and non-profit organizations, in international institutions, and in Italian diplomatic offices
- linguistic and cultural mediation in public and private schools in Italy and abroad, as well as in public institutions
- consulting for organizations involved in promoting the Italian language and culture
- foundations and public administrations: promotion and organization of cultural events, and enhancement of historical and cultural heritage
