Born in Perugia in 1967, he graduated in Civil Engineering in 1990 and earned a PhD in Thermophysical Properties of Materials in 1995.

He served as researcher and subsequently associate professor of Environmental Technical Physics (IIND-07/B, formerly ING-IND/11) at the University of Perugia from 1997 to 2015.

From 2004 to 2013, he was Director of CIRIAF (Interuniversity Research Centre on Pollution and the Environment “Mauro Felli”), headquartered at the University of Perugia, which includes ten universities and over one hundred faculty members.

From February 2016 to September 2023, he was Full Professor of Environmental Technical Physics at the Department of Engineering at Roma Tre University.

Since October 1st, 2023, he has been serving at the Department of International Human and Social Sciences (SUSI) of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, where he holds the positions of Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Relations with Local Institutions and Businesses, Coordinator of the PhD programme “Frontier sciences in sustainability, diplomacy and international cooperation”, and Director of the Master’s Programme “Urban and Territorial Regeneration and Resilience”.

Principal Investigator for numerous national research projects (MUR, MIPAAF, INAIL) and EU-funded projects (LIFE, Intelligent Energy Europe, Seventh Framework Programme, Horizon 2020), he is a Technical Scientific Expert for the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and evaluates research projects for the Ministry, various universities, and regional administrations.

Regarding applied research, he has served as Principal Investigator for numerous commissioned research agreements with leading organizations and companies, including the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies, ISPRA, Municipality of Rome, Umbria Region, ARPA Umbria, Province of Perugia, Municipality of Perugia, Autostrade, Bank of Italy, Rome Airports, Ikea Italia, and the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

He is author of over 400 scientific publications on topics characteristic of the field, including building thermophysics, building and environmental acoustics, lighting engineering, renewable energy sources, as well as on interdisciplinary topics such as circular economy and life cycle analysis, energy geopolitics, energy planning and environmental impact, preservation of cultural heritage, and sustainable mobility.

He serves on the editorial boards of several national and international journals and is Editor-in-Chief of two international journals (Noise Mapping and Building Acoustics). He has organized numerous national and international conferences.

From 2021 to 2024, he was Director and, since 2025, is Vice President of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibrations (IIAV). From 2021 to 2024, he was President of the Italian Acoustical Society (AIA).

He is included in the Top Italian Scientists list for Engineering and, since 2019, in the annual Stanford University report on scientific impact of researchers worldwide (top 2% of most cited scientists).

Graduated in Building Engineering-Architecture, in 2023 she obtained a PhD in Energy and Sustainable Development from the University of Perugia. In 2022, she spent four months as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator (VSRC) at Princeton University (New Jersey, USA), furthering her studies in innovative solutions for the built environment.

During her doctoral studies and subsequent years as a post-doctoral researcher, she has participated and continues to participate in national research projects (PRIN, FISR, and other ministerial programs) and international projects, mainly funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes.

Her scientific work focuses primarily on: (i) the development and characterization of advanced materials for greater energy efficiency and sustainability in buildings, and (ii) the analysis of environmental comfort using a multiphysical approach, with particular attention to thermal, visual, and acoustic domains.

Thanks also to collaboration with national and international industrial partners, she has developed a scientific profile integrating theoretical, numerical, and experimental skills, as well as technology transfer and intellectual property management capabilities. The main results of her research activities are presented in publications in leading international journals, in which she appears as first author in over half of the contributions.
