Biographical Note

Born in Perugia in 1967, he graduated in Civil Engineering in 1990, and obtained a PhD in Thermophysical Properties of Materials in 1995. Researcher and then associate professor of Environmental Technical Physics (ING-IND/11) at the University of Perugia from 1997 to 2015, from February 2016 to September 2023 he was full professor of Environmental Technical Physics at the Department of Engineering of Roma Tre University and since October 1, 2023, at the Department of International Human and Social Sciences (SUSI) of the University for Foreigners of Perugia.

From 2004 to 2013, he was Director of CIRIAF (Interuniversity Research Center on Pollution and Environment "Mauro Felli"). Scientific coordinator of numerous national research projects (MUR, MIPAAF, INAIL) and European projects (LIFE, Intelligent Energy Europe, Seventh Framework Programme, Horizon 2020), he is a Technical Scientific Expert of the MUR and evaluator of numerous research projects on behalf of the Ministry and several universities and regional administrations. Regarding applied research, he has been scientific coordinator of numerous agreements with major institutions and companies, including the Umbria Region, the Municipality of Perugia, the Municipality of Rome, the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, ISPRA, Autostrade, Aeroporti di Roma, Bank of Italy, IKEA Italy.

He is author of over 300 scientific publications on topics typical of his Scientific-Disciplinary Sector, such as building thermophysics, building and environmental acoustics, lighting technology, renewable energy sources, but also on interdisciplinary subjects such as the circular economy and life cycle analysis, the geopolitics of energy, energy planning and environmental impact, conservation of historic and artistic heritage, sustainable mobility.

He is a member of the editorial boards of several national and international journals and Editor in Chief of two international journals (Noise Mapping and Building Acoustics).

Since 2021, he has been Director of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibrations (IIAV) and President of the Italian Acoustics Association (AIA).

Biographical Note

Graduated in Building Engineering-Architecture, in 2023 she obtained her PhD in Energy and Sustainable Development at the University of Perugia. In 2022, she spent a four-month research period as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator (VSRC) at Princeton University (New Jersey, USA), where she advanced her studies in innovative solutions for the built environment.

During her doctoral studies and subsequent years as a postdoctoral researcher, she participated and continues to participate in national research projects (PRIN, FISR, and other ministerial programmes) and international projects, mainly funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.

Her scientific activity mainly focuses on: (i) the development and characterisation of advanced materials for enhanced energy efficiency and sustainability in buildings, and (ii) the analysis of environmental comfort through a multiphysics approach, with particular attention to thermal, visual, and acoustic domains.

Thanks also to collaboration with national and international industry partners, she has developed a scientific profile integrating theoretical, numerical, and experimental skills, as well as expertise in technology transfer and intellectual property valorisation. The main outcomes of her research are published in high-impact international journals, where she is the first author in more than half of the contributions.
