Biographical Note

Born in Perugia in 1967, he graduated in Civil Engineering in 1990 and obtained a PhD in Thermophysical Properties of Materials in 1995.

Researcher and subsequently Associate Professor of Environmental Technical Physics (IIND-07/B, formerly ING-IND/11) at the University of Perugia from 1997 to 2015.

From 2004 to 2013, he served as Director of CIRIAF (Interuniversity Research Centre on Pollution and Environment “Mauro Felli”), administratively based at the University of Perugia, with ten universities and over one hundred faculty members as members.

From February 2016 to September 2023, he was Full Professor of Environmental Technical Physics at the Department of Engineering, Roma Tre University.

Since 1 October 2023, he has been serving at the Department of International Human and Social Sciences (SUSI) of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, where he holds the positions of Vice Rector for Infrastructure and Relations with Public Bodies and Enterprises, Coordinator of the PhD Programme “Frontier Sciences in Sustainability, Diplomacy and International Cooperation,” and Director of the Master’s programme “Urban and Territorial Regeneration and Resilience.”

Scientific coordinator of numerous national (MUR, MIPAAF, INAIL) and European research projects (LIFE, Intelligent Energy Europe, Seventh Framework Programme, Horizon 2020), he is a Technical Scientific Expert of the MUR and evaluator for many research projects on behalf of the Ministry and several universities and regional administrations.

With regard to applied research, he has been scientific coordinator for numerous agreements with major public bodies and companies including the Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies, ISPRA, City of Rome, Umbria Region, ARPA Umbria, Province of Perugia, City of Perugia, Autostrade, Bank of Italy, Rome Airports, Ikea Italy, and the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

He is the author of over 400 scientific publications on key topics of his Scientific Disciplinary Sector, including building thermophysics, building and environmental acoustics, lighting technology, renewable energy sources, as well as on interdisciplinary subjects such as circular economy and life cycle analysis, energy geopolitics, energy planning and environmental impact, conservation of cultural heritage, and sustainable mobility.

He serves on editorial boards for various national and international journals and is Editor in Chief of two international journals (Noise Mapping and Building Acoustics). He has organised numerous national and international conferences.

From 2021 to 2024, he was Director and, from 2025, will serve as Vice President of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibrations (IIAV). From 2021 to 2024, he was President of the Italian Acoustics Association (AIA).

He is included in the list of Top Italian Scientists in the Engineering field and, since 2019, in the annual report by Stanford University on the scientific impact of global researchers (top 2% of the world’s most cited scientists).
