Master’s Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS)

• develop specialized training in contemporary international relations, global governance arenas and actors, major geopolitical issues, the spread of democratization processes, the institutions of emerging countries, the cooperation policies of international institutions, economic development policies, and the dynamics of international journalism
• possess specific expertise in the functioning of international economic institutions, debt issues and sustainable growth, bilateral, multilateral, decentralized and non-governmental cooperation policies, relations among emerging countries, processes of regionalization and decentralization, conflict transformation and regulation techniques, political doctrines of global development, and the role of the media and international public opinion
• develop interdisciplinary knowledge and acquire methodological tools necessary to design, coordinate, and implement international cooperation initiatives in economic development, institutional strengthening, environmental sustainability, and human rights protection
• achieve high proficiency in at least two foreign languages

Graduates find employment in organizations, public and private institutions, both national and international, economic enterprises and non-profit organizations operating in Italy and abroad, which, in various capacities, engage with the international context and developing countries.

Graduates may also hold positions of responsibility and leadership within organizations representing collective interests (political parties, employer and employee unions, associations for the protection of the environment and human rights), and in national or supranational associations of a humanitarian, cultural, or scientific nature.

The Master's degree program provides preparation for roles such as:

• ambassador, executive, and official within a diplomatic career path
• project manager, consultant, and professional in the field of development cooperation
• head of “internationalization” in small and medium-sized enterprises
• expert in humanitarian emergency programs
• manager in communications, public relations, research and development departments
• junior officer in international governmental and non-governmental organizations
• internal and external communications manager in multinational companies and international groups
• public relations specialist
• specialist in political science and international analyst
• institutional communications expert
• manager in national and international environmental protection agencies
• expert in cooperation and environmental projects
• disaster manager, risk manager in the environmental sector
• consultant in environmental economics and policy within public and private institutions

*The 9 ECTS credits for foreign language courses include 3 ECTS taught by a native-speaking language instructor.

To be admitted to the Master’s Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree, a three-year university diploma, or another qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable. In addition, in order to enrol, students must:

• meet the required curricular prerequisites
• pass an entrance interview. The interview may only be taken if the curricular prerequisites have been met

Curricular Prerequisites

In order to enrol in the programme, students must have acquired preliminary curricular knowledge amounting to a total of 51 ECTS credits in the following disciplinary sectors:

Additional credits beyond the 180 required for the bachelor's degree programme may be included in the assessment, provided they were obtained in courses related to the fields and sectors indicated above. Likewise, relevant language certificates and internship experiences may be considered, provided they have not already been counted towards the Bachelor’s degree.

Any additional ECTS credits required to meet the curricular prerequisites must be obtained before enrolling in the Master’s Degree Programme and before the assessment of individual preparation. These credits may be acquired at any university as “single-course units” within first-cycle programmes.

The fulfilment of curricular prerequisites will be verified by the University’s Student Office for Degree Programmes and Teaching. Students may submit their documentation by emailing segreteria.laurea@unistrapg.it or by presenting it in person at the Student Office (Palazzina Orvieto, Viale C. Manuali, 9 - 06123 Perugia).

To have their curricular prerequisites verified, students are required to present:

• a copy of the degree certificate (for graduates) including a transcript of courses completed, with the corresponding ECTS and academic disciplines
• a copy of the certified list of completed and remaining exams (for graduating students), indicating acquired and pending ECTS and the corresponding academic disciplines.
