This degree program, part of the Department of International Human and Social Sciences, offers students the opportunity to explore, understand, and analyze the challenges related to the broad theme of sustainability, with in-depth focus on environmental, social, economic, and cultural aspects. The innovative educational approach combines theoretical and experiential learning, research, project development, and internationalization.
The program provides knowledge, skills, and methodologies characteristic of the social sciences, and is complemented and enriched by the study of technical and scientific disciplines. This ensures a transdisciplinary approach to sustainability, supporting the understanding and analysis of complex contemporary challenges at international, national, and local levels.
The curriculum aims to consolidate fundamental areas and core knowledge (historical, economic, philosophical, and legal sciences), and then progressively develop more specialized and sector-specific skills. This is achieved through courses and workshops addressing various aspects of sustainability and international cooperation, including offerings in English.
The international character of the degree programme is enhanced by an extensive network of established collaborations with institutions, public and private organisations, and universities involved in various aspects of sustainability and international cooperation (including UNESCO, the Community of Sant’Egidio, and the International Committee of the Red Cross). This enables students to broaden their educational experience through international mobility opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad.
The programme particularly addresses topics such as peace, the circular economy, globalization, digital transition, the environment and climate change, as well as social and intercultural relations.
Course Information
- to consolidate and deepen knowledge and skills in anthropological, social, legal, institutional, and technical-scientific disciplines related to sustainability, development, and international cooperation
- to provide appropriate methodologies for critical analysis of phenomena such as globalization, intercultural and gender dynamics, cooperation, the environment and climate change, and social and political transformation at local, national, and international levels
- to ensure fluent proficiency, both written and spoken, in two foreign languages (English and Spanish) in addition to Italian
- to develop soft skills particularly aimed at enhancing abilities in development and project planning (both micro and macro), including in interdisciplinary, cross-sector, and international contexts
The program provides career opportunities across a wide range of professional fields, including international relations, scientific diplomacy, human rights protection, environmental safeguarding, emergency management, and peacebuilding, through:
- the independent application of the knowledge and skills acquired during the course, enabling immediate entry into the workforce within institutional, entrepreneurial, and third-sector organizations engaged in sustainability, cooperation, and peace (including public administrations, educational institutions, international organizations, institutional, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations at local, national, and international levels)
- further specialization in the areas of sustainability and international cooperation within advanced academic programs, particularly the Master’s Degree in International Relations and Development Cooperation offered by the Università per Stranieri
