Sustainability is a journey to be promoted at the local level, on and with the territory, while constantly maintaining a global outlook, thanks to the strong international vocation of the University for Foreigners of Perugia. In this regard, we aim to be a university serving the community, a bridge between Perugia, Italy, and the world.
Our vision of sustainability goes beyond classrooms and laboratories, and is expressed through small daily actions and public engagement initiatives that actively involve, in addition to the entire academic community, civil society as well.
Among many things, our Sustainability Handbook, which evokes the shape of a stylized tree, is a concrete and tangible symbol that aims to contribute to spreading a culture of sustainability through a series of small actions that can make a difference.
This handbook was a tool developed in our laboratories, created with our students and then translated and shared with all our international partners, consolidating our commitment to making Unistrapg a true ambassador of sustainability worldwide.
Another particularly significant initiative is the Unistrapg Forest, for which the University has committed to planting a new tree for each new student, in recent years planting trees in various parts of the world through international cooperation projects, and more recently through the planting of new trees in the Santa Margherita Park, which partly falls within our University Campus and is the subject of a major redevelopment project, to the benefit of our student community and the entire population of Perugia.
These are small actions, but they convey powerful messages and evoke the idea of “taking care”—a caring not only for the education, the individual and cultural growth of each of our students, but also for the planet as a whole, a form of responsibility towards future generations, from which the very concept and truest essence of sustainability is born.
This is precisely the crucial role of the Academy, which must look beyond its own classrooms to become an active participant in the transition, to bridge the gap between theory and reality, to become an instrument of social, political, and institutional transformation.
This is the commitment that we at Unistrapg strive to honor, day by day, in our daily work of research, teaching, and raising awareness, with the knowledge that every small step is a seed, a sprout toward growth and a collective journey to face together.
