Fenice Project

a view of the Castelluccio di Norcia plain

In the myth of the Phoenix, the legendary creature rises from its own ashes, symbolising rebirth and regeneration. This same spirit of resilience and renewal is reflected today in the story of Norcia and the Valnerina, struck by the devastating 2016 earthquake.

Like the Phoenix rising after destruction, these communities are emerging with determination and hope to restore their identity and rebuild their social, cultural and economic fabric. This is the purpose of the “Fenice Project”, established through collaboration between Università per Stranieri di Perugia, Comune di Norcia, Camera di Commercio dell’Umbria, and Scuola Umbra di Amministrazione Pubblica. Together, working to provide training and rebuild hope along with pathways for social and economic development.

Highlights

Areas of activity of the Fenice project

Management with local businesses and the production system will focus on optimising relationships between companies and integrating with the surrounding environment. This approach aims to foster cooperation among local businesses, promote the sustainable economic development of the Norcia community, and make the most of the resources available in the area.

A unique opportunity to promote the region through an immersive journey into its history, art, and local traditions. This engaging and interactive approach will not only enhance knowledge but also stimulate cultural tourism, thus contributing to economic development and the appreciation of local heritage.

Through specialised programmes in key areas of advanced education, high-level skills will be strengthened to address the challenges of today’s labour market. Participants will acquire outstanding practical tools to deliver initiatives with significant social and economic impact for the local community.

Advanced training programmes for public administration will provide specialised expertise and updates on regulations and management practices specific to the public sector. Public officials will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge to improve service efficiency and promote transparent and accountable governance.

PhD programmes will provide an advanced educational pathway for deepening academic knowledge and skills, while summer and winter schools will offer intensive learning opportunities over short periods. Students participating in these programmes will have the opportunity to engage with experts in the field, take part in workshops and collaborate on innovative projects to broaden the impact on the local community.

The sixth area of intervention is cross-cutting with respect to the previous ones and will be based on sharing and promoting models of excellence and effective methodologies, fostering innovation and the efficiency of regional development processes. Through dissemination and outreach activities, best practices will be broadly shared within the relevant contexts, facilitating mutual learning and contributing to the growth and success of organisations and the entire Nursina community.
