"From Knowledge ... to Know-How"
The new Guidelines issued by MIUR, drawn up pursuant to Law No. 145 of December 30, 2018, have renamed and restructured the "School-Work Alternation" programs (Legislative Decree No. 77 of April 15, 2005) as "Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation" (PCTO).
Through hands-on experience, the PCTO programs allow upper secondary school students to consolidate and enhance the knowledge they have acquired at school by testing their personal aptitudes in real-life settings, thereby further supporting individual development and guiding students in choosing their future academic pathways.
According to current regulations, work-based learning experiences (PCTO) remain mandatory with the following minimum durations:
- 210 hours over the final three years of vocational secondary schools
- 150 hours over the second two-year period and the final year of technical secondary schools
- 90 hours over the second two-year period and the fifth year of upper secondary schools (licei)
The Università per Stranieri di Perugia continues to participate in the development of these orientation-focused pathways, providing for the activities—planned and defined in individual training plans—to be carried out within its administrative offices and laboratories. These activities are coordinated and supervised by the Career Guidance Service.

To undertake an internship at the University for Foreigners of Perugia, you must follow the procedures required by current legislation and draw up specific agreements and training projects in compliance with health and safety regulations.
To properly activate these internships, it is necessary to organize, within the Institutes or at the University, themed orientation seminars and training meetings with staff from the Guidance Service, which support any planned internship periods.
Applications submitted by individual Institutes are evaluated by the Guidance Service based on the availability of University Offices and the training project activities proposed by them. A specific training project is drawn up for each structure, signed by the tutor from the Institute and simultaneously by the University tutor (the head of the relevant University Service). Priority for student internship placements is given to Schools that have already established ongoing collaboration and orientation activities with the University.
