First Level Master's Degree in "Contemporary Journalism

The programme will enable participants to:

  • critically update their knowledge and skills in journalism within an international context, with particular focus on the European sphere
  • acquire advanced knowledge in key areas of professional innovation, enhancing adaptability and resilience
  • strengthen analytical and interpretative skills regarding issues at the centre of public debate in contemporary Western societies
  • acquire the skills necessary to address the digital transition of journalism and its increasing international projection
  • develop expertise in building stable and engaging relationships with diverse forms of connected audiences, emphasising the role of journalistic mediation
  • diversify professional skills in relation to the institutional and communicative environments in which they may be applied

The Master's degree is primarily aimed at professional and publicist journalists, as well as anyone wishing to enter this profession and seeking a widely accessible training programme.

The project addresses:

  • professional challenges linked to global transformations and the digital transition
  • the needs of those seeking entry into the profession
  • all those aiming to advance or enhance their current careers

The multidisciplinary programme is designed to meet emerging needs for knowledge and skills acquisition resulting from ongoing changes in the global context and in the journalistic profession. It encourages the diversification of professional competencies in line with the institutional settings and communication environments where media professionals can develop or strengthen their career paths.

The achievement of the First Level Master's degree in “Contemporary Journalism” allows direct admission to the second year of the Master's Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS) at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, provided the requirements for admission to the Master's Degree Programme are met. Upon recognition of 42 ECTS credits, graduates of the Master's in possession of the above-mentioned requirements who wish to enrol in the LM are required to obtain the remaining 78 ECTS credits for the award of the Master's degree, including those allocated for the thesis, by successfully completing all non-validated exams, including those from the first year.

Bachelor’s degree or pre-reform degree under the system prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99.
