First Level Master’s Degree in "Contemporary Journalism

The programme will enable you to:

  • critically update your knowledge and skills in journalism in an international context, with particular attention to the European sphere
  • acquire advanced knowledge in the main areas of professional innovation, fostering the development of adaptability and resilience
  • strengthen your ability to analyse and interpret issues in contemporary Western public debate
  • develop the skills needed to address the digital transformation of journalism and its growing international outlook
  • build expertise in establishing stable and meaningful relationships with diverse forms of connected audiences, enhancing the role of journalistic mediation
  • broaden your professional skills to suit various institutional contexts and communication environments where they may be applied

The master’s programme is primarily aimed at professional and freelance journalists, as well as anyone wishing to enter this profession and seeking comprehensive and accessible training.

The programme addresses:

  • the professional challenges arising from global change and the digital transition
  • the needs of those seeking to embark on a career in journalism
  • all those aiming to continue or advance their current careers

The multidisciplinary programme is designed to address emerging needs for knowledge and skills acquisition resulting from the ongoing transformation of the global context and the journalistic profession. It promotes the diversification of professional competencies in connection with the institutional contexts and communication environments in which information professionals can develop or enhance their career paths.

Obtaining the First Level Master’s Degree in “Contemporary Journalism” entitles graduates to direct admission to the second year of the Master’s Degree Programme in International Relations and Development Cooperation (RICS) at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, provided they meet the entry requirements for the Master’s Degree. In fact, upon recognition of 42 ECTS credits, participants who hold the aforementioned qualifications and wish to enrol in the Master’s Degree Programme will be required to earn the remaining 78 ECTS credits—this includes credits awarded for the dissertation—by passing all outstanding exams, including those from the first year, which have not been recognised.

Bachelor’s degree or pre-reform degree awarded prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99.
