DAI - Developing an AI-assisted Italian Language Teaching and Learning System

SSD: GLOT-01/B

Categoria di finanziamento:

ERASMUS+

Durata:

Developing an AI-Assisted Italian Language Teaching and Learning System (DAI) is a European project aimed at promoting significant progress in the teaching and learning practices of Italian as a foreign or second language through the systematic and informed integration of artificial intelligence-based technologies.

The project addresses this scenario by developing environments and resources capable of personalizing the educational experience according to the actual needs of the learners. In this perspective, DAI intends to provide Italian L2/LS teachers with advanced skills, operational tools, and dedicated resources for effective integration of artificial intelligence into teaching practices, contributing to the development of AI literacy and the ability to design innovative, inclusive, and digitally competent pedagogical interventions. At the same time, the project will offer international learners of Italian L2/LS a personalized, AI-supported online path, conceived as a replicable model for other languages. The platform will include interactive modules for the integrated development of linguistic and cultural skills, a large repository of digital resources, and an intelligent chatbot for guidance and navigation within the content.

To support research in the field of technology-assisted language teaching, the project also foresees the creation of a learner corpus derived from interactions generated on the platform. This corpus will enable an in-depth, longitudinal, and interdisciplinary analysis of the role of artificial intelligence in language acquisition processes and in the design dynamics of adaptive educational systems.

Promoted by a consortium that includes universities and research centers from five European countries, the project aims to make a substantial contribution to the evolution of Italian language teaching by promoting an educational ecosystem in which technological innovation, teaching quality, and attention to learners’ needs operate as fully integrated and mutually synergistic dimensions. Purpose:

The training package intended for teachers, together with the repository, will promote a solid understanding of the integration of artificial intelligence into teaching practices, helping to increase the effectiveness of learning pathways. The AI-based platform designed for learners of Italian will be created to support a high level of participation, strengthening motivation and engagement while minimizing the risk of dropout. Global dissemination and the maximization of potential impact in diverse educational contexts represent the expected final outcomes.

Attività / Fasi del progetto:

The project involves a comprehensive set of activities aimed at developing educational resources based on artificial intelligence and integrating these technologies into the teaching of Italian as a second or foreign language. The main areas of intervention include the design of a training package for teachers, the development of a personalized online course for learners, and the creation of an ecosystem of open educational resources (OER), accompanied by dissemination and sustainability actions.
