Beyond the Stereotype: The Influence of Women in Post-Earthquake Reconstruction Processes

The research project aims to examine the role of women in post-earthquake reconstruction, with particular reference to the city of Norcia, which was affected by the 2016 earthquake. Although international literature recognizes the potential of women as agents of change, there is a lack of studies on the impact of their contributions or what they might offer in emergency situations in Italy. Using demographic mapping, desk analysis, and field research, this project seeks to fill this gap. The different experiences of women will be analyzed, considering both success stories and those who have been excluded. The goal is to assess how and to what extent women take part in recovery processes, identifying the factors that facilitate or hinder their involvement, and how reconstruction policies can better include them. The expected outcomes include the design of female empowerment initiatives specific to Norcia, aimed at enhancing and expanding the role of women in the community, while taking into account the diversity of their experiences.
