Access for foreign students to degree courses

Access to degree courses for non-EU students residing abroad

Info

Access is governed by a specific MIUR circular

Enrollment is considered finalized upon assessment by the University, after:

  • verification of the authenticity of the submitted documents and fulfillment of the requirements for enrollment
  • completion of the entrance examination
  • payment of university fees
  • presentation of the Visa and residence permit

For students enrolling in a master’s degree program, prior assessment of curricular requirements by the Degree Program Office is mandatory.

For non-EU foreign students residing abroad (visa applicants) who have not been exempted from the Italian language proficiency test, according to the above-mentioned Italian Ministry circular, an Italian language proficiency test at B2 level of the CEFR is required, in addition to the entrance examinations required for all Italian and foreign students.

All candidates holding a qualification equivalent to an upper secondary school diploma obtained after 12 years of schooling are eligible to enroll in bachelor's degree programs.

Candidates holding a high school diploma obtained after 10 or 11 years of schooling must present, in addition to the secondary school diploma, an academic certification which, in the case of 11 years of schooling, attests to the passing of all the exams required for the first year of university in their own country or, in the case of 10 years of schooling, attests to the passing of all the exams required for the first two years of university in their own country.

The academic certification allows enrollment in the first academic year and the shortening of the university course only in the case where the duration of the university attendance exceeds the period needed to supplement the missing school years.

Candidates from countries where a special university entrance exam (academic aptitude test) is required must present, along with their secondary school diploma, the certificate relating to the entrance exam with the grade obtained.

Documents to be submitted to the University along with the pre-enrollment application for bachelor's degree courses

  • the original final certificate of secondary studies, indicating the final grade or a substitute certificate with full legal effect; certificate attesting to the passing of the academic aptitude test, if required
  • certificate of partial academic studies already completed if the qualification was obtained after less than 12 years of schooling or if a request for course shortening is made (in this case, the certificate must specify the exams passed and be accompanied by official documentation detailing the content of these exams)
  • diplomas or certificates of Italian language proficiency
  • 2 color passport-sized photographs, one of which authenticated by the competent Italian Diplomatic Representation for the region
  • a photocopy of a valid identity document
  • Declaration of value*

*The declaration of value, which must be requested from the Italian Diplomatic Representation in your country, is a certificate that verifies and confirms that the upper secondary school degree held entitles the applicant to access university courses in the country where it was obtained.

All the documents in a foreign language required for pre-enrollment must be legalized by the Italian Diplomatic Representation and translated into Italian.

The translation may be done by local translators and students must request certification of the translation's conformity from the competent Italian Diplomatic Representation for the region.

All admitted foreign students, like Italian students, are required to attend a non-selective interview—which should not be confused with the Italian language proficiency test—for the assessment of their personal preparation.

Information regarding the participation procedures, date, and venue of the interview can be requested from the degree course office.

All candidates holding a university degree equivalent to an Italian first-level Bachelor’s degree have access to Master's degree courses.

Required Documentation

  • Educational Qualifications
    • Certificate or substitute document, with its translation into Italian, relating to the Secondary School Diploma obtained in your home country. The certification must specify: the name of the Diploma, the Institution where the qualification was obtained, the year it was obtained, and the period of schooling required to obtain it. Please note that according to Italian regulations, in order to be admitted to university, the qualification obtained abroad must correspond to at least twelve years of schooling. Furthermore, if in the student’s country academic eligibility tests are required for university admission (e.g., GaoKao), the certification must specify whether or not these tests have been passed.
    • Certificate or substitute document, with its translation into Italian, relating to university studies completed, if the above Diploma was obtained with less than twelve years of schooling (at least one year of university studies must be completed if schooling was for eleven years, or two years if schooling was for ten years).
  • Knowledge of the Italian Language
    • Certificate or substitute document, with its translation into Italian, relating to knowledge of the Italian language, indicating the level achieved and the institution where the certification was obtained. If such certification is absent, or to supplement it, the student may submit letters of recommendation from teachers or other documents (e.g., Letter of motivation) with translation into Italian, relating to their knowledge of Italian. Students without certification or other documents but who already have a good command of the Italian language must specify how they learned the language.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copy of a valid identification document (passport)

All required documents must be provided in Italian.

The letter of eligibility for enrollment will specify the documentation (Declaration of Value, etc.) relating to the qualification required for admission to the chosen course, which the student must present in the original upon arrival in Perugia.

The declaration of value, to be requested from the Italian Diplomatic Representation in your home country, is a certificate that verifies and confirms that the upper secondary school qualification you hold allows admission to university courses in the country where it was obtained.

All admitted international students, like Italian students, must take a non-selective interview, not to be confused with the Italian language proficiency test, to assess their personal preparation.
