This is the Odyssean threshold of the world": Translingualism in Hungarian Migrant Literature
By investigating the translinguistic turn of Edith Bruck and Giorgio Pressburger, the project is framed within a broader phenomenon of intellectual migration involving Hungarian authors forced into exile, for whom Italy represented not only a refuge but also a linguistic and cultural space in which to redefine their writerly identity. A comparison with other exiled Hungarian authors – Sándor Márai, Ágota Kristóf – will highlight the uniqueness of the Italian language and of translinguism as a tool to reconnect with their own "inner Pannonia." The aim is to demonstrate how the adoption of Italian as a literary language by Edith Bruck and Giorgio Pressburger was the result of an artistic and cultural evolution able to transcend a "writing of limits" typical of exile.
