The Accessible Books Service provides books and/or articles in accessible formats for students with dyslexia, visual impairments, or physical and motor disabilities.
The service is managed by the University Library System in collaboration with the University Support Service for Students with Specific Learning Disorders and Disabilities (SDDA).
The Copyright Law (Law no. 633/1941, updated by Law no. 37/2019 and by DPCM of 6 July 2020) allows authorised entities to create, on a non-profit basis, accessible format copies of works or materials to which they have lawful access (art. 71-bis, co. 2-quinquies), intended for specific categories of beneficiaries, including people who are blind, visually impaired, have perceptual or reading disabilities, or certain physical disabilities (art. 71-bis, co. 2-bis).
The Università per Stranieri di Perugia, as an authorised entity, offers a service for the sourcing and provision of examination texts in accessible formats.
The service includes:
sourcing and provision of material already available in digital format;
conversion of printed texts held by the library into digital format;
sourcing and provision of bibliographic material not available in the University library.
In accordance with legal provisions, this service is available to students with dyslexia, visual impairments, or physical-motor disabilities that make it difficult to use printed books. Those in any of these situations must submit relevant documentation to the Student Administration Office before requesting books in accessible formats.
