Pre-requisites
Comprehension of oral and written English at least at level B2 of the CEFR. If necessary, students should make use of the language tutoring service offered by the University.

Learning Objectives
Students who complete the course will: Become familiar with the history, structure, objectives, modes of operation, and policies of the EU as a result of the evolution of diverse political systems and national interests. Develop the ability to understand the specific nature and role of the various EU institutions. Gain the ability to present relevant topics orally and apply the knowledge acquired throughout the course to present-day issues pertaining to the institutions, politics and policies of the EU.
Contenuto del corso
This course is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the European Union (EU) and its complex institutional framework, political dynamics, and policy-making processes. Throughout the course, students will delve into the historical, legal, and political foundations of the EU, examining key treaties, institutions, and decision-making processes that shape EU policies. They will gain a thorough understanding of the European integration process, exploring topics such as the evolution of the EU's institutions, the role of member states, and the challenges of supranational governance. The course also focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of the European integration project, dissecting the main challenges it faces, including the eurozone crisis, Brexit, the Covid-19 pandemic, the management of migration.
Metodi didattici
Students are required to communicate to the instructor, within 10 days from the beginning of the course, whether they will be attending or non-attending.
Attending students
Lectures, interactive seminars, presentations prepared using the materials available on the LOL platform, group projects.
Non-attending students
Details to be agreed with the instructor.
The digital platforms LOL and Teams will be used, including for distance learning methods according to the indications developed by the CdS.

Metodi di accertamento
The exam will be carried out, both for attending and non-attending students, in a single session in written form, during which both the study of the texts in the program and the materials offered on the LOL platform will be verified and, for attending students, the understanding of the topics covered in the classroom and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to concrete cases.
For students with disability or DSA certifications, the exam methods will be agreed in relation to the specific needs, after hearing the opinion of the Commission for differences and inclusion.
