Prerequisiti
No specific prerequisites are required, except for a basic knowledge of the B2 English language.
Obiettivi formativi - Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Students attending the Laboratory will achieve the following objectives: A) Knowledge and comprehension a. Become familiar with the main theories and interpretation related to the problem of security in international relations. b. Understand the question of international security in its historical development from the Modern age to the present days. B) Ability to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding: a. Analyse and discuss the emerging threats to international security in the current world. b. Develop both practical and analytical tools to critically address selected case studies.
- The objectives of the course are in line with the requirements of the SUA document adopted by the CdS.
Contenuto del corso
This course will investigate the question of security in the contemporary world. We will examine the ideas, theories, and histories of different questions related to security from the modern age up to the present days. We will also analyze the response of scholars and policy-makers to insecurity and explore the resources available to counter threats to security, from diplomatic options to the use of force. A special insight will be given on the new threats, specifically on the technology-related ones. The laboratory will also include a simulation on a selected case study.
Metodi didattici
Full-time students The laboratory will consist on lecture-based exercises with discussions. Simulation of a case study under the coordination of the Professor (material will be given by the instructor through the LOL-Platform) Non attending students will have to integrate the textbook with additional reading and exercises available at the beginning of the course on the LOL-Platform. Students affected by DSA certified by the Students’ Office will have access to measure reducing and/or cancelling some parts of the course. Each request will be taken into consideration autonomously. Any request/inquiry has to be sent in advance to the instructor independently of through the “Commissione disabilità e DSA”.
Metodi di accertamento
For attending students the assessment will consist of an evaluation of the participation in the simulation (30% of the final grade) and of a final oral exam (70% of the final grade). Non-attending students will take a final oral exam. The frequency of the Course online platform Web Class’ use by both attending and non-attending students will be regularly checked.
