I'm an historian of Sub-saharan Africa by training, with a focus on the Horn of Africa, particularly Eritrea and Ethiopia. My work focuses on two main areas, political history and social history from colonial imperialism to the present, spanning border studies, conflicts and nationalism from colonial imperialism to the early XXI century. In this context, I have paid attention to issues of primary sources, being constantly committed to expanding the range of unpublished sources, concerned with the epistemological questions and the possibilities and limits of knowledge production.

A more recent line of research concerns on mobility and migration in Sub-Saharan Africa, addressed from the perspective of regional integration programmes, and paying attention to the role of the African Union also in the context of Euro-African relations, through qualitative research and analysis of policies at regional and international levels.
